Here’s some video footage I shot of Dutch Uncles performing their tune ‘Face In’ during the first of three Manchester In The City sets – this one was at the Chicago Rock Cafe. Dutch Uncles also played the Deaf Institute later the same night, and were a last night minute addition to the Now Wave showcase at the Night and Day (on the bill with The Drums, May68 and Young British Artists).

The Drums were one of the most hyped bands of this year’s Manchester In The City…. and, as it turns out, the hype was probably justified. They were certainly in my top 5 bands of the festival. A cracking energetic set with catchy tunes, played to a feverish crowd reaching the end of their 3-day ITC benders. My favourite part: the pirouting and twirling tambourinist threatening to spin-off the side of the stage with each wild revolution!
After the venue began clearing out I noticed a setlist still onstage – it read:
- Best Friend
- Me And The Moon
- Submarine
- Make You Mine
- Don’t Be A Jerk
- Surfing
- Saddest Summer
- Stupes
- Forever And Ever Amen
- **When I Come Home**
(I’m not sure of the accuracy of this, please feel free to correct in the comments)
Anyway, below you’ll find a video I shot of them performing ‘I Felt Stupid’ from a few hours ago (Tuesday 20th October 2009):
(NB: The HQ quality version is still processing, so it may take a few hours for it to show properly on YouTube)

Towards the end of May, Manchester band Run Toto Run recorded a cover of the Passion Pit tune ‘Sleepyhead’ and uploaded it to YouTube. Over the course of the summer the video went viral, clocking up an impressive 44,000 views – whilst an mp3 recording of the tune hit the front page of The Hype Machine (a site that aggregates blogposts from influential music blogs)
Last night Run Toto Run played at the Manchester Deaf Institute (as part of a Friends Of Mine night featuring Mutineers and the very impressive Airship). Here’s a video I shot of RTR closing their set with ‘Sleepyhead’:

I saw The Longcut on Monday night at the Academy 3. I can’t understand why this band aren’t massive.. they’ve been a big favourite of mine since I first caught them live in June 2004 (when they supported Bloc Party at the Bierkeller).
The band are currently on a UK tour this month – go and see them live:
16th October – Find tickets – Glasgow King Tuts Wah Wah Hut
18th October – Find tickets – Southampton The Talking Heads
A couple of months ago The Answering Machine played a free show for BBC Manchester Introducing at the Manchester Ruby Lounge – I shot a bit of video that I’ve since uploaded to YouTube…
Here’s the complete setlist from the night – I recorded all the tunes from ‘Emergency’ onwards:
